The Meduseum is a small traditional mansion, but it is also a multi-purpose place (tours, prototyping, 3D printing, lectures, puzzle repairs, festival organising, storage, mountain path preparing, etc). Therefore, an appointment is needed for us to prepare the Meduseum before you arrive.

Since it is a free tour, if your group has three or less people, please try to find more. This protects us from our passion becoming saturated and from exhaustion, because besides the many 2-hour tours we are involved in many more activities.

This Puzzle Tour is not an IQ test. It is an epic journey through the amazing world of puzzles, novel ideas and extraordinary mechanisms. Interaction is the key element of the Puzzle Museum, and this can be understood only by visiting. It is not like a painting museum, where you only look around. The Meduseum is the epitome of interactive art and play.

So, if you travel to Kastellorizo with a priority to visit the Meduseum, please contact us to ensure we will be available during your stay to avoid disappointment. Although 95% of the time we are on the island, sometimes we are away for puzzle presentations or other events.

Note that, in 2021 the Meduseum was declared as a European Center for Arts, Science and Culture.

The Meduseum offers something extremely rare: Puzzles which are directly related to art, culture, and to content taught at schools and universities. Pantazis Houlis has won lecturing awards at university level by using puzzles to reinforce understandable knowledge, while he is also the mind behind novel puzzles sold at Harrods.

The puzzles are usually manufactured in limited edition, as they mainly target schools and other educational insitutions. But their cultural significance is far higher than anyone can anticipate. Breathtaking ideas, top craftmanship, traditional connections, archaeological research, and more, prove that the Meduseum connects many concepts at the same time.

Some puzzles created by the Meduseum's founder, have been voted as the best in the world, while some are based on novel university research (including interplanetary!). Obviously, It is difficult to describe all those without the interaction. Just like Plato's Cave allegory.

Also, during the Puzzle Tour, there is an interactive display of amazing mechanical devices inspired by ancient Greek inventions, showcasing the ingenuity of the past in action and how puzzles have evolved today. It also reveals Greece's leading role in puzzles.

We love to be invited to travel and provide unforgettable interactive Puzzle Presentations at schools, universities and private events. Demand is very high and time is limited, so please book as early as possible.

Presentations may involve interactive puzzle play, puzzle lectures, or both.

Learn about Kastellorizo's long tradition in puzzles. Local magazines of the 19th century and local newspapers of the 1960s are overflowing with puzzles and riddles. Greece is regularly represented at the International Puzzle Party by two highly awarded Greeks, both with origins from Kastellorizo. One of the biggest puzzle collections worldwide exists in the Meduseum.

Since 2020, the Meduseum has been the core of puzzles in Greece. And using this core, in 2021, Pantazis Houlis and Eleni Grammatikopoulou (with the help of the Municipality of Megisti and other sponsors) organised the 1st Kastellorizo Puzzle Festival. It has been so successful and popular, that it happens every year around mid-October in Kastellorizo. It was also required to conduct Puzzle Festivals in other places too: Patras (2022), Athens (2022), Xanthi (2025) and Vamvakou (2026). Every Festival is filled with puzzles, and in parallel there are many scientific and cultural interactive events.

We collaborate with Schools, Universities (University of Aegean and the University of Western Australia) and Institutions (ICSD - Stefanos Panakoulias) to conduct research in the ways puzzles help:

1. Efficient Education. Making Classes more Understandable and Fun.

2. Autistic Children and Learning Difficulties.

3. Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia.

4. Improving Well Being and Sustainability.

The Meduseum's founder, Pantazis Houlis, has been the only volunteer of Kastellorizian origin to form the island's unique trail network. His knowledge about known and unknown paths cannot be rivaled.

During those years, Manolis Roxanas partenered for the opening of more than 30km, Petros Tsokataridis contributed hugely in the north, while the late Dimitris Kampouris and Clubs from Vrilissos and Fyli also helped.

He had already created an impressive walking map of the island in 2018, before a professional map (by Terrain - Stefanos Psimenos) was made in 2021 and then in 2026 through a project funded by the Municipality of Megisti.

Kastellorizo has unique flora and fauna, making it a special place to walk. The surroundings have an outworldly aura, as there are hundreds of ancient monuments, including 50+ ancient wine presses, from which it is said King Solomon drank his wine.

History and mythology is overwhelming here, as the island is part of ancient Lycia, where the enormous Cyclopes and flying Pegasus used to live.

Outside the Meduseum, only big orders are accepted (in this case, shipping and handling fees also apply). Receipt or electronic invoice is provided.

Please note that the Puzzle Tour is always free and there is absolutely no obligation to buy anything. The puzzles are mainly created for schools. Of course, it is possible to buy them when visiting, especially as they are a unique type of souvenir. The Meduseum is the only place in the whole world where those puzzles can be found.

Puzzles such as the boardgame puzzle "Medousa" (the spelling using an extra "u" is deliberate) and the "Medusa 3x3x3 cube" will amaze you!

Most puzzles have high educational value, as they are directly related to the content of school and/or academic books.

Explore the legend of Medusa through immersive storytelling and themed exhibits that bring the myth to life on Kastellorizo.

According to new archaeological research, Medusa lived in Kastellorizo. Aeschylus' quote "Gorgonian fields of Kisthene" combined with Strabo's report that "Kisthene is the largest island opposite Antiphellus" provide a solid and objectively unmistaken argument regarding mythological Medusa's whereabouts. Mythology is symbolic and not realistic, but regardless, it is amazing for this tiny island to have such a connection to the world's most famous monster.

As stated, the island is filled with extremely beautiful trails from the north to the south, from the east to the west. The wonderful view in the main photo is from a "throne-like" seat, deliberately made of ancient stone, which could have been the throne of Medusa.

In addition, there are a lot more historical sources which also converge to this fact. This is why the name "Meduseum" encompasses everything in one single name.

Just some piece of advice: When visiting Kastellorizo, never look into the eyes of a local. You never know whose descentant it can be!

After being established, the Meduseum quickly climbed up as Tripadvisor's Nr 1 attraction on the island based on the ranking (i.e. 5/5). The same is true (again 5/5 ranking) on Google Maps, by simple searching "Meduseum".

Besides the ranking, the comments left by visitors reveal their amazement, while some of them have returned for more!
